The following desperate plea for more money was found on Reddit:
Dear Scorpion Seal Practitioner,
I am delighted to announce that a group of committed donors and patrons have come together to offer a $100,000 matching grant in support of the 2019 Jewel Patron 100 Days – 100 More Jewels Campaign.
This means when you become a Jewel Patron during this campaign, an additional $1,000 will be offered – up to $100,000. There has never been a more impactful time to become a Jewel Patron!
Will you become a Jewel Patron and join 180 others worldwide who have committed to giving $1,000 or more to Shambhala or the Sakyong Potrang annually (or collectively to both) and in perpetuity, as long as they are financially able?
This gift can be made annually as one sum or as a recurring monthly donation (approximately $85 / month). For some of you, this could mean simply increasing an existing monthly donation.
Our goal is for 100 new Jewel Patrons to commit to this powerful path of generosity and patronage in the 100 days between January 1, 2019 and April 10, 2019. There are already 20 new Jewel Patrons since January 1, so we are well on our way! All Jewel Patron donations will be included in the global total for this year’s Shambhala Day fundraising, so this would be an excellent way to make this year’s Shambhala Day gift, should this feel right to you.
As a Jewel Patron, you have a choice as to where you direct your donation:
- Shambhala, which manages Shambhala Global Services on behalf of the Shambhala community. These dedicated people maintain and provide access to a library of copyrighted curriculums and trainings, support planning of international programs and trainings, maintain the Shambhala Database which leaders use to send out over 250,000 messages annually, offer IT services that support the maintenance and hosting of all Shambhala websites worldwide, as well as many other support services and resources that provide the critical infrastructure that allow Centers and Groups worldwide to operate and the community to be healthy and strong. You can click here to read a comprehensive overview of Shambhala Global Services.
- The Sakyong Potrang, which is the seat of the Sakyong lineage. These funds support salaries, health care, parsonage, work related travel costs, and teaching support (editor, transcriber, secretary) for the Sakyong and Sakyong Wangmo and are what allow the lineage to flourish and teachings from the Sakyong to come forth. These church-related expenses are tax-deductible.
- A combination of giving to both the Sakyong Potrang and Shambhala Global Services that totals $1,000 or more. If you wish to give in this way, please inform me as to how you would like to allocate your giving and I will be happy to assist you with this.
Again – this matching grant means that whichever entity you choose to make your Jewel Patron giving in 2019, $1,000 from the matching grant will also be donated to that entity up to $100,000. If you become a Jewel Patron of Shambhala, an additional one-time $1,000 match will go to Shambhala. Likewise, if you become a Jewel Patron of the Sakyong Potrang, an additional one-time $1,000 match will go to the Sakyong Potrang. Or you can give to both and this match can be shared between both if you choose to offer that way.
As a Jewel Patron, you will be part of an engaged community of dedicated Jewel Patrons. These patrons enjoy a shared path of working with financial generosity, are offered a specific practice, The Jewel, to enrich their path of patronage, and have opportunities to gather together in online practice sessions of The Jewel where they can explore the principles of generosity and patronage*.* You will also know that you are part of a network of global patrons that can take healthy pride in leading the way to much needed financial stability in our community.
It is important to highlight that becoming a Jewel Patron should not pull you away from other areas of giving, such as your local community or regional Land Centre. The intent of becoming a Jewel Patron is that it is a heart contribution you are willing and able to make above and beyond your current giving commitments. As such, it is important to clarify that the Jewel Patron commitment of $1,000 annually does not include any current giving to your local Centre or Group, or Land Centres.
Please take a moment to hit “reply” and let me know if the path of being a Jewel Patron feels right to you at this time. And please do let me know if you might have some time free in the coming days to have a conversation, as I would appreciate hearing your thoughts and insights on the path of patronage and to answer any questions you may have.
Thank you again for all of your continued generosity to our community and the world.
With warmth and appreciation,
Development Director of the Sakyong Potrang and Shambhala
Desperate people frantically trying to raise more money from their subjugated followers who apparently already give quite a bit of money, in support of a morally bankrupt man and a morally bankrupt organization. It seems that the money pot from the public is drying up, and so Shambhala is forced to squeeze the dwindling stock of students.
No doubt the ’20 new Jewel Patrons since January 1″ is a lie, and meant to entice people in thinking that some have already committed to this farce so that they join in. I’m sure NO ONE has committed to joining this rarefied sucked-dry group, as “a Jewel Patron is donation is a heart contribution you are willing and able to make above and beyond your current giving commitments...’
